Seven Summits Cycling Portugal offers a forgotten route that was also a way to Santiago around the highest mountain in Portugal, serra da Estrela. The Star Way is a route dating back to Roman times and has over 2000 years of existence. When Rome conquered the Iberian Peninsula traced, strategically, this route to serve the troops and to drive people and foods moved to several major centers of the peninsula but also for controlling, in its route rich minerals such as gold and silver.
Was the link between the city of Mérida and Braga which made Star Way one of the main roads of the peninsula. since the 16th century it used to the escape of the Jews from Spain. When James the Apostle reached the “end of the world” as it was known the Iberian Peninsula by the Romans, his tomb became a secular sanctuary and the two countries have adopted as their patron. The Star Way has become union between the Silver and the Portuguese “camino” to Santiago, becoming itself a pilgrimage route.
